We use cocoa from this origin a bit differently than the others: Instead of sourcing whole beans, we source cocoa butter, which we use in many of our products. Learn more about cocoa butter here.
In the verdant Duarte Province of the Dominican Republic, this award-winning cacao grows amid avocados, star apples, guava, and more. Los Bejucos has been a denomination of origin since 2012, and in 2013 these beans won the Cocoa of Excellence award. More than 200 farmers grow and harvest cacao on 1,121 hectares of land. They bring their wet beans to a centralized location run by Rizek, which ferments and dries the beans itself to maintain the highest quality process. Rizek then presses cocoa butter in its facility in the DR and ships it directly to us!
